Furnace Repair

Gas furnaces are used to heat homes and typically look like a big box.  They use a simple air loop that does the following:

  • Takes in cold air
  • Passes it through an air filter to clean it
  • Heats it with a gas burner
  • Circulates the air to the air ducts using a blower

Ensuring optimal performance of your furnace requires regular maintenance.  The most important and easiest of these is changing or replacing the air filter.  When air filters get clogged with dirt and debris, the furnace can perform poorly and it could even reduce the life of furnace parts.  Maintaining a clean filter also saves energy costs and increase air quality.

Steps to Changing a Replacement Air Filter:

  • Turn off the Furnace
  • Find the Panel that hides the blower, sometimes also marked 'Filter' and remove it
  • Most filters are mounted next to or under the blower, slide it out along the tracks
  • If it is a disposable filter, simply remove it.
  • If the filter is reusable and requires cleaning, follow the directions on the filter
  • Vacuum in and around the blower
  • Replace cleaned and/or new filter
  • Reattach Blower Panel

When to Call a Furnace Professional:

  • The Pilot light is out and there is a smell of gas
  • The Furnace produces no heat even after checking fuses, thermostat and the unit itself
  • The Furnace is not producing enough Heat
  • The Furnace has a loud persistent squeaking or Rattling sound
